Joseph J. Hill
Ralston/Mercy-Douglass House

Honoring the commitment of Ralston Center’s founders to housing for low-income elders, in 2001 the Board of Managers constructed and opened a 55-unit independent living apartment building for seniors 62 years and older. Located at 3817 Market Street in Philadelphia, it was developed in partnership with the HUD 202 Supportive Housing Program and is managed by Mercy-Douglass Human Service Affiliates. The state of the art facility features modern conveniences, affordability, and security for its residents.

The building is named for Joseph J. Hill, a long-time member of the Ralston Center Board of Managers. He is a descendent of the Keen family from whom Ralston Center acquired its property at 36th and Chestnut Streets in the 1880s. As President of Ralston Center from 1993 through 2003, Mr. Hill guided the development and construction of Ralston/Mercy-Douglass House.
